Percussion

Simon Camatta (1976) is an internationally renowned improvisational and jazz drummer. He breaks the mold with evening-long, improvised drum solo concerts and interdisciplinary works in unusual, off-site venues. On his album “This is not a Solo Record,” he collaborated with guests and field recordings. He studied jazz at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and plays shows with various groups, in theaters, and with independent dance companies. He also works with visual artists as part of his project “Drums Meets Canvas.” He curates two festivals and lives in Essen/Germany. He has worked with Vincent von Schlippenbach, Fred Frith, John Edwards, Caroline Kraabel, Bex Burch, John Butcher, Viv Corringham, Chris Corsano, Axel Dörner, Jaap Blonk, FM Einheit, Casper Brötzmann, Silke Eberhard, Charlotte Hug, Thomas Lehn, Maggie Nicols, Rachel Musson and Corey Mwamba amongst many others.
